Design and deliver literacy instruction for a diverse community of learners. Identify techniques for building word recognition, integrating reading and writing, and enhancing understanding of text. Manage speaking and listening opportunities that lead to active, equitable and academically oriented conversations for all students. Identify the role of classroom literacy instruction in a multi-tiered system of supports and determine how to work with colleagues to provide evidence-based interventions for students who struggle as readers and writers. EDU 243 is a Maryland State Department of Education approved reading course. Prerequisite: A Bachelor's degree and seeking teacher certification or permission from department chair.
