Describe the anatomy of the periodontium and the etiology of periodontal disease. Classify patients based on periodontal criteria and identify optimal strategies to help reverse periodontitis. Describe procedures to complete periodontal evaluation for all classifications, identify best options for treatment, develop a treatment plan, review systemic health conditions, discuss prevention strategies, conduct risk assessment, and identify the use and implementation of different home care aids. Describe how to assess and consider the patient's beliefs and personal opinions on oral health, and provide patient education using clear and effective communication. Prerequisites: DHY 100, DHY 102, DHY 104, DHY 106 and DHY 108 with a grade of C or better in each course. Corequisites: DHY 110, DHY 112, and DHY 116.
