Master of Business Administration
University of Maryland
Are you interested in “ganjapreneuriship”? Or want to know what that term even means? Then you might want to sign up for a class with Shad Ewart. When the medical use of cannabis was legalized in Maryland, he created the first credit course to explore the entrepreneurial opportunities created by the legalization. Today, he is a go-to expert about the latest trends in the cannabis industry.
Some students who have taken Ewart’s course have found employment in the cannabis industry or have started their own businesses. One of his former students even owns a number of dispensaries. Regardless of their path, Ewart said his favorite thing about teaching at AACC is “helping students achieve their dreams.”
Ewart has taught at AACC since 2001. In addition to classes about the cannabis industry, he teaches business, management and marketing courses. He has served as chair of the Business Management department and as director of business programs. Many of his curricular innovations have been replicated in other parts of the college. He has served AACC on a variety of committees, including as chair of the Academic Forum.
Ewart also teaches noncredit cannabis courses for Carroll Community College that include career exploration, ganjapreneurship, regulations and a course on home growing.
