When Anne Arundel County native Kristin Weedn was wrapping up her master’s degree in nursing, she knew she wanted to get a job that would enable her to give back to a community that had been a big part of her life. When Weedn was in high school, she had taken vocational technical courses that allowed her to sit for her licensed practical nurse (LPN) exam. To take her career further, she enrolled in AACC’s LPN to RN program to earn her associate degree.
“It took me 10 years to go back to school for my B.S.N. and once complete, I really felt like teaching the new generation of nurses was what I was supposed to do,” she said. “I got my M.S.N. immediately following my bachelor’s, and when it came time to get a job, my heart always lied with AACC. I knew I wanted to teach at the college that really started my career in nursing.”
She has taught at AACC full time since fall 2019. She is inspired by her students who come from all walks of life and bring a richness to her classroom. Her passion is creating caring nurses.
“I live for the ‘ah-ha’ moments in the students. Where they really learn how to critically think and make sound clinical judgments to appropriately care for patients in a clinical setting. When those lightbulbs go off, it is reinforcement that I am in the right place. It is also the best to go into the area hospitals and see so many of our prior graduates doing so well.”
