For 34 years, Lisa Chamberlain has been teaching the next generation of nurses, a crucial role considering the nation’s nursing shortage. She has taught courses at AACC in a variety of formats, including clinical, labs, simulations and lectures.
While AACC’s nursing program is quite rigorous, Chamberlain’s students say she is both compassionate and approachable in the classroom. She enjoys sharing “real world” stories of working with patients and their families. In turn, Chamberlain learns from her own students’ stories.
“They come from so many different backgrounds, some overcoming huge obstacles just to be here,” she said. “I love to hear their stories and find ways to help them achieve their dreams. I enjoy being a part of a student’s journey on their path to becoming a nurse.”
Chamberlain also serves as chair of the Nursing Student Association, which brings in guest speakers from across the state to share their experiences with students in a variety of nursing specialties.
In her spare time, Chamberlain enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. She calls gardening her “sanctuary and creative outlet.” And, as a long-time Anne Arundel County resident, she loves boating.
“My favorite thing to do is pack up dinner and take friends out for a sunset cruise right here on the Magothy River.”
