If you take one of KT Perkins’s composition or American literature courses, you won't have to worry about an empty stomach during class.
“I'm known for my snack basket,” they said. “I take a basket of snacks to each class for anyone to partake in because it's hard to learn when you're hungry or need a snack.”
Perkins joined the college in 2023 after they moved here with their spouse. They fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay area during an anniversary trip years ago, and after the pandemic, they decided to chase their dream of calling the area home. Perkins, who has been teaching composition for more than 15 years, began looking for a professorship.
“I met my AACC colleagues during my interview and knew that this was the place for me.”
Perkins loves teaching first-year courses and thinks students are “the most interesting people.” They find AACC students especially positive and consider it a joy to be in the classroom with them.
In their spare time, Perkins loves to travel to experience new cultures and landscapes. With their spouse, they have traveled to 25 states and 15 countries. They also enjoy walking, hiking and playing disc golf with their dog and reading, especially memoirs.
