When Lindsay Roark was an undergraduate student at York College of Pennsylvania, she took two classes at AACC while she was home for summer break. The Bowie native said she was “blown away by not only the campus, but the level of care and expertise my professors showed me.” Now, she teaches mathematics courses at the college where she was once a student.
“AACC truly strives to better the lives and education of our community at large,” she said. “I have found AACC is an amazing place to be a student and to be a faculty member. Coming to work for a college that has a vision that strives to make the world a better place is the most rewarding of careers.”
Roark finds inspiration in her students’ diverse backgrounds and experiences and is amazed by the outside demands (such as jobs and families) they are often juggling. Roark makes it her priority to ensure the success of each of those students.
“I work hard to build a community inside my classroom, where every student feels connected and feels like they belong,” she said. “I am also passionate about ensuring the accessibility of our classes for all students, including our students who are blind or deaf. I strive to work with the college to create a frictionless path for our students to reach their educational and career goals.”
When she’s not teaching, Roark can often be found outdoors with her husband, three children and “cute but very anxious” dog. They enjoy hiking nearby trails (the paths at AACC are a favorite), spending time on the beaches of Fenwick Island and skiing every winter at Wisp Resort in Western Maryland.
