A Little More

Janet Lea Haddock grew up in a very small Midwestern town, where art had to be studied independently because it wasn’t taught in the local public school systems. Fortunately, she was able to pursue her interest in art at Iowa State University, one of the top schools in the country for interior design.

Haddock entered the workforce before computers. She had to adapt as they play a necessary role today. She is a certified interior designer in California and has worked all over the country including in the Midwest, the San Francisco Bay area, Arizona, Montana, Florida and Maryland.

Since 2006, she has taught and developed interior design courses at AACC. Her transition to teaching happened thanks to a chance encounter at a friend’s Christmas party.

“A student studying for a career change engaged me in a conversation and submitted my name to the department,” Haddock explained. “I was relatively new to Maryland and was not aware of the program or the college. It has become my second family and second home and has played a very important part in my family's life. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of AACC.”

Haddock is advisor to the college’s student chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association. She’s also on the board of directors for the Greater Annapolis Design District as the representative for the college.

“When a person finds something where they lose all sense of time because they are so engaged in what they are doing, find a way to make that your life's work and you will never work a day in your life,” she offered. “That is what interior design has done for me.”
