On Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, Anne Arundel Community College and the Spa Creek Conservancy hosted the second annual Anne Arundel Youth Environmental Action Summit in the Health and Life Sciences Building at AACC in Arnold. More than 60 students, 15 organizations and eight presenters attended the free event that encouraged high school and undergraduate students to take environmental issues into their own hands.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about student environmental action opportunities from their peers, connect with environmental action experts and network with professionals in green fields, including keynote speaker Imani Black, founder of Minorities in Aquaculture.
“Based on feedback from last year, we worked to provide even more hands-on opportunities for students, like seed planting and having students create a plan of action for an environmental issue they care about,” said Tammy Domanski, Ph.D., director of the AACC Environmental Center and associate professor of biology.
This event was made possible by generous donations from the Spa Creek Conservancy, Chesapeake Family Life, Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, Arundel Rivers Federation and Biohabitats.
