The dental hygiene profession is experiencing a nationwide workforce shortage. AACC is ready to help fill that gap with a new Dental Hygiene program uniquely designed to help address the growing demand for oral health professionals in the area.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the dental hygiene profession is projected to grow 9% from 2023 to 2033, faster than average for all occupations. This translates to about 16,400 openings nationwide for dental hygienists each year on average. The median national average salary for dental hygienists was $87,530. Anne Arundel County’s median salary average is $110,000 per year.
Dental hygienists play a crucial role in patient care. They take X-rays and help patients prevent cavities, gingivitis and periodontal disease by removing tartar, stains and plaque from teeth. They also educate patients on proper oral hygiene procedures.
In fall 2025, AACC will host its first ever cohort of dental hygiene students. Those who complete the two-year, five-term program receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. This allows students to sit for the American Board of Dental Examiners’ (ADEX) National Licensing Examination for Dental Hygiene.
“At AACC, students can embark on a fulfilling journey in dental hygiene where passion meets purpose,” Interim Director of Dental Education Badal M. Patel, a registered dental hygienist, said. “The college and I believe that students can join us in making a difference by learning how to provide comprehensive dental hygiene care and educating individuals and communities about the critical connection between oral health and overall well-being.”
With its cost-effective tuition, state-of-the-art dedicated dental clinic and laboratory and skilled faculty, AACC offers a premium education at an affordable price.
