The School of Science, Technology and Education is proud to offer the following Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees. As an additional transfer option, AACC has the unique Transfer Studies degree. All of these degrees will prepare you to transfer to a four-year institution. Whichever path you choose, we strongly encourage you to meet with an advisor to structure your AACC studies to meet your specific transfer goals.
Do you look around and wonder about life and the functions of living organisms? If so, our Biology program might be for you. You’ll complete your general education requirements while taking courses in microbiology, botany and zoology. You’ll also be able to concentrate on other areas of biology according to your interest. The study of biology is excellent preparation for the diversity of life science professionals where careers in biology are interesting and in demand. By the time you earn your degree, you’ll be ready to transfer to a four-year institution of your choosing.
Environmental science is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field, with issues such as climate change and fracking spurring public interest. Environmental scientists work toward improving the environment and identifying, controlling or eliminating environmental hazards or pollutants affecting public health. At AACC, you’ll take a variety of general education classes as well as courses in zoology, ecology and environmental science. By the time you finish your degree, you’ll be well prepared for the next step of your academic journey and to transfer to a four-year institution.
The field of nursing includes a number of different career paths. If you are interested in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing — a four-year degree allowing greater involvement in patient care, including health care administration, research, or clinical teaching positions — then the Nursing Transfer degree is for you. It will allow you to transfer to both in and out-of-state four-year colleges to complete your degree.
AACC can help you on your path to credentials with a two-year transfer degree. Our curriculum provides a solid foundation in biology, physical sciences, chemistry, health and wellness that feeds into the accredited dietetics bachelor’s program at the University of Maryland, College Park. An advisor can also adjust the program for transfer to other four year colleges as needed.
If you’re looking for a career that enables you to restore natural and urban environments, beautify landscapes and manage property for food or fiber, then our Plant Science Program might be the perfect fit. Plant scientists study plants to improve landscapes for human nature. At AACC, you’ll finish your general education requirements and gain an overview of the principles of plant taxonomy, restoration ecology and horticulture. When you finish your degree, you’ll be ready for the next step by transferring to a top four-year college or university.
Health care is a rapidly expanding field that relies on the expertise of a wide range of credentialed professions. It includes the many types of doctors, therapists and clinicians who work directly with patients as well as those who develop new health care treatments and conduct laboratory-based diagnostics. Our Premedical Professional Program will prepare you for transfer to a four-year college or university specializing in these areas.
The Transfer Studies, A.A. allows you to explore different subjects or concentrate on a specific course plan that will best meet your in-state (and even some out-of-state) transfer goals. This option is particularly good if you are undecided in your ultimate career direction, not sure where you'd like to eventually transfer or just looking to complete general education requirements while "testing the waters" of a particular major. No matter what brings you to Transfer Studies, the result is a well-rounded associate degree preparing you for further studies and successful career.
