Become a certified medicine aide or update your credentials through these noncredit courses at AACC. These face-to-face continuing education courses are held evenings and weekends.

What credentials can I earn?

Upon successful completion of NRN-325 Medicine Aide or NRG-388 Medicine Aide Update, students receive a certificate valid for two years. Students who successfully complete NRN-325 will also receive an AACC continuing education certificate. To receive the certificate, submit a Student Application for a Continuing Education Certificate.


What will it cost?

The program costs $960, including tuition and fees, for Anne Arundel County residents.


What is the job outlook?

Employment of medicine aides is expected to grow 47% through 2027, faster than the average for all occupations. The earnings of medical assistants vary depending on their experience, skill level and location, with a current median salary of $25,000 per year.

How do I enroll?

Register online, by mail or in person.

  • Registration Information for NRN 325

    Step 1 Before you register, you must have:

    • Two years experience as a current certified nursing assistant (CNA) or one year of experience as a geriatric nursing assistant (GNA)
    • A current GNA card (or print out from the MBON website)
    • Written recommendation from your current employer on company letterhead and signed by the director of nursing

    Step 2 Complete basic reading and math tests administered at one of AACC’s testing locations. Call 410-777-2560 for an appointment.

    Step 3 Make an appointment and meet with the program coordinator who will review the required documentation listed above and determine eligibility for the course. To make an appointment, call 410-777-2560.

    Step 4 Register in person at the Glen Burnie Town Center. This can usually be done upon conclusion of your meeting with the program coordinator.

    Note: a background check for an additional fee of $38.50 is required for NRN 325 Medicine Aide. Instructions will be provided on the first day of class. 

  • Registration Information for NRG 388

    Step 1 Before you register, you must have:

    • A certified medicine aide certificate
    • A current certified nursing assistant or geriatric nursing assistant card (or print out from the MBON website)
    • A letter on company letterhead, from the director of nursing at your place of employment indicating that you have worked for at least 100 hours as a medicine aide, 16 hours as a CNA, and eight hours as a GNA in a Maryland long-term care facility within the preceding two years

    Step 2 Make an appointment and meet with the program coordinator who will review the required documentation listed above and determine eligibility for the course. To make an appointment, call 410-777-2560.

    Step 3 Register in person at the Glen Burnie Town Center. (This can usually be done upon conclusion of your meeting with the program coordinator.) Check credit card and ATM cards accepted.
