Not necessarily. Even with a completed degree, courses other than those meeting General Education Requirements will be evaluated individually to determine transferability.
Yes, general education credits can be fulfilled at AACC and are transferable to a four-year college or university. Note, general education requirements are dependent on program of study and may vary at each four-year college or university. Please work with your AACC Academic and Transfer Advisor to plan appropriately.
Completing your associate degree does not guarantee that you will meet junior status at a four-year college or university. In general, junior status is determined when you transfer a minimum of 60 credits into a desired program of study at a four-year college or university. Typically, another two years of coursework is needed after completing your first 60 credits. It is important to create an academic plan to ensure a smooth and successful transfer. Please work with your AACC Academic and Transfer Advisor to plan your transfer coursework.
AACC will only award a degree to students who have earned a minimum 2.0 GPA. Some four-year colleges and universities may admit students with a 2.0 GPA, while others may require a higher GPA for admissions. Please work with your AACC Academic and Transfer Advisor to review transfer admissions requirements.
This varies among four-year colleges and universities. Generally, courses with a grade of “C” or better are eligible for transfer. Please note that some major or program specific courses may require a grade of “B” or better to transfer. In some instances, Maryland public colleges and universities may transfer a grade of “D” for select courses. Please work with your AACC Academic and Transfer Advisor to review the transfer policy at the four-year college or university you plan to attend.
Maryland community college students who have completed an associate degree and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher are guaranteed admission into a Maryland public four-year college or university. Of note, guaranteed admissions applies only to the admissions into a college or university, and not into a selective or special admissions program (i.e., limited enrollment program).
You may transfer at any time provided you meet the admission requirements at your desired four-year college or university. Typically, you must meet the minimum credit and GPA requirements, which may vary among different four-year colleges and universities. To maximize the transfer of credits and to save money, you are encouraged to complete an associate degree and then transfer. Please work with your AACC Academic and Transfer Advisor to review the transfer policy at the four-year college or university you plan to attend.
In general, four-year Maryland colleges and universities will award transfer credit for half of the baccalaureate program (60 credits), but not more than 70 credits. There are some out-of-state institutions that will accept up to 90 credits in transfer. Please work with your AACC Academic and Transfer Advisor to review the transfer policy at the four-year institution you plan to attend.
Transfer and articulation agreements help maximize your credits in transfer. These agreements show how AACC coursework will apply to a baccalaureate degree program at a four-year college or university. You can visit AACC’s Transfer Partners webpage to find additional information about our current agreements.
