Veteran Viewpoints

We'll be discussing "Celebrating Diversity in the Force." Veteran Viewpoints sessions are facilitated discussions where questions are posed to the group, and everyone is invited to share their thoughts. The questions encourage veterans and other military-connected individuals to share their insight, expertise and/or experience with the topic.

Nov. 6-11

Operation Green Light for Veterans

AACC will join Anne Arundel County, the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers in Operation Green Light. This shows support for veterans by lighting select areas green. By shining a green light, we will let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported.  


Nov. 10-22

AACC Bookstore Coupons

The AACC Bookstore is offering a discount coupon celebrating Veterans Month for 20% off one general merchandise item from Nov. 10 to 22. It can be used in the AACC Bookstore or online with the promo code VET25 at checkout. This discount cannot be combined with any other sales offers. Certain exceptions may apply. Exclusions include textbooks, laptops, graphing calculators and postage stamps.

“Celebrating Diversity in the Force” Literacy Exhibit 

Visit AACC’s Andrew G. Truxal Library to view their literary exhibit in the second-floor entrance display case. You’ll find a curated selection of books highlighting the accomplishments and challenges experienced by veterans. An online guide will also be available.

Veterans Appreciation Ceremony

As part of our recognition of this important population, AACC hosts a special event each year. In addition to guest speakers, this event honors veterans through the reading of names. A light reception will follow. No RSVP is necessary.

POW/MIA Tables

Take a moment of silence when you visit the POW/MIA tables in the SUN Hawk’s Nest and AMIL lobby. These tables serve as a remembrance for fallen, missing or imprisoned service members. The items on the table are symbolic representations of emotions or feelings by those service members or the family members left behind.

Military History Presentation and Book Reading

Join us on Zoom for a presentation and brief reading from the book, “I Was in Company Q: A Spiritual Connection to the American Civil War” with author and historian Ryan Trainor. Long marginalized by historians, the experience of Civil War deserters contains surprising insights about modern military service challenges. This presentation will also cover the diverse social perspectives found in Maryland during the Civil War – to include immigrants, women, and African Americans.
