Mathematics pathways can help you discover which math courses might be most helpful for you depending on your career interests.

Do you enjoy the challenge of learning mathematics? Would you like a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)? You may want to follow the Calculus Pathway.

Are you interested in a career in business, social science, life science, education or health science? Consider the College Algebra Pathway.

If you're interested in a career that involves statistics, critical thinking and logic, then the Statistics Pathway might be most useful for you.

To determine which pathway is best for you, talk to an advisor to answer these two questions:

  • What is your program of study?
  • Where do you want to transfer?

Calculus Foundations Pathway

Join the pathway at the level of your mathematical preparedness. If you placed into Precalculus Foundations (MAT-044), your pathway looks like this:

Precalculus Foundations (MAT-044)  >  Precalculus 1 with co-requisite support (MAT-045/MAT-145) > Precalculus 2 (MAT-146) > Calculus 1 (MAT-191)

If you placed into MAT 145, your pathway looks like this:

Precalculus 1 (MAT-145)  >  Precalculus 2 (MAT-146) > Calculus 1 (MAT-191)

If you placed into MAT-151, your pathway looks like this:

Accelerated Precalculus (MAT-151) > Calculus 1 (MAT-191)

Or you can place directly into:

Precalculus 1 (MAT-045) or the Calculus sequence Calculus and Analytic Geometry 1 (MAT-191), Calculus and Analytic Geometry 2 (MAT-192) and Calculus and Analytic Geometry 3 (MAT-201)

College Algebra Foundations Pathway

Join the pathway at the level of your mathematical preparedness. If you placed into MAT-036, your pathway looks like this:

Foundations of College Algebra (MAT-036) > College Algebra with Co-Requisite support (MAT-037/MAT-137)

You can also place directly into:

College Algebra (MAT-137), Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics 1 (MAT-221), Elementary Calculus (MAT-230)

If you are interested in a career in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education, you might take Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics 1 (MAT-221) instead of College Algebra (MAT-137). Contact an AACC Academic Advisor about Mathematics courses for Education majors.

If you are interested in a career in Business Administration, you may also need Elementary Calculus (MAT-230) following MAT-137.

Statistics and College-Level Pathway

Join the pathway at the level of your mathematical preparedness. If you placed into Statistics and College-Level Foundations (MAT-034), your pathway looks like this:

Quantitative Foundations (MAT-034)  >  Nature of Mathematics (MAT-100), Finite Mathematics (MAT-133) OR Statistics (MAT-135)

If you placed into MAT-035, your pathway looks like this:

Statistics with Co-requisite support (MAT-035/MAT-135)

If you placed directly into MAT-100, MAT-133 or MAT-135, your pathway simply involves that one course.
